Wilmington Beach
The beaches of Wilmington are very popular to travelers, watersport
fanatics and exporters. Since 1729, Wilmington had been considered to be
a port city in the Atlantic for its many natural advantages. It had
become a highway to land pioneers and a major seaport. Not to mention
too, it is the largest city in North Carolina.
Wilmington, the county seat of New Hanover County, was incorporated
in 1739 and was originally situated on seven hills located on the east
side of the Cape Fear River. It was named in honor of Spencer Compton,
Earl of Wilmington, who was a patron of North Carolina’s Governor at the
time. To this day, visitors are reminded of its rich history by the
grand old homes and tree-lined boulevards making Wilmington one of the
most beautiful small cities in the south.
The city of Wilmington has been one of the fastest growing East Coast
deep-water ports. It grew dramatically blessed with a wealth of
colonial, Greek revival, Victorian, and Italianate architecture draped
through a charming, historic downtown.
