NC Colleges
North Carolina has other venues for higher learning aside from its
universities. Private and public liberal arts colleges and private
colleges that likewise offer bachelors degrees in the arts and sciences
also surround the state. One of which is the private Brevard College, a
United Methodist owned institution. It offers degrees in music, arts and
science and has a relatively small enrollment of 700 students. The
college is strategically located near the Pisgah National Forest, where
most of their resources that could help the school’s programs could be
found. Some of the courses that they offer are the following: Religious
Studies, Experiential Education, Mathematics, Integrated Studies,
Environmental Science, Ecology and a lot of subjects to minor from.
A liberal arts college exclusive for women is situated in Raleigh and
named as Peace College, which was founded as the Peace Institute in 1857
and was named after its leading donator, William Peace. With a meager
700 population, the college offers undergraduate courses in
Anthropology, Business Administration, Human Resources, Music
Performance, Psychology, Spanish, Graphic Design and more. They also
offer the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies where the student can
choose among the 25 areas of concentration as well as obtaining the
flexibility he can possess to earn the degree. Peace was named as one of
Americas Best Colleges, placing itself in the upper 10%, as done by the
Indiana University's annual National Survey of Student Engagement.

The Less-McRae College in Banner Elk is a college named after two women,
Suzanna Lee (the owner-educator) and Elizabeth McRae (benefactor) and
was established in 1900. It started out as an all-girls school until a
merge of students happened after the structure of an all-male branch in
Plumtree was destroyed by fire. In 1937, it became a coeducational
college. It offers bachelor's degree programs in Athletic Training,
Communication Arts, Wildlife Biology, Humanities, Literature,
International Studies, Religious Studies and more. The campus is also
popular as it is has the highest elevation of any college or university
in the United States at 3,720 feet above sea level.

Greensboro College is a co-educational institution and is now housed
in an 80 acre campus in Greensboro. This college that has a current
population of approximately 1,200 opened its doors as a woman's college,
more popularly known as the Greensboro Female College when it was
introduced in 1833, and at that time was among the oldest institutions
of higher education for women during that time until it was transformed
into a co-educational institution. Among the degrees offered in the
college are Exercise and Sports Studies, English and Communication
Studies, History and Political Science, Allied Health, Art, Criminal
Justice, Music, Psychology and more.
Other private colleges and liberal arts colleges in North Carolina are
the following: Lenoir-Rhyne College, Mars Hill College, Meredith
College, Montreat College and Mount Olive College.
